Domestic Infant Adoption

Typically these days, most domestic adoptions are open - meaning the expectant mother, or birth parent(s) chooses the family she wants to place her child with and maintains some level of contact with the family and her child.  Families need a homestudy when working with an agency in California.

Many agencies also help families prepare their profiles to be presented to birth mothers.  The agencies work with the birth parents, who sign relinquishments which are legally binding in California within a few weeks.  After a baby is placed with your family, your agency social worker will visit with you four times before finalizing in court.  Wait times vary and costs can range from $15,000-$25,000 on average.
